Convergence Investment Partners uses quantitative tools to select investments, construct portfolios, and manage risk. The primary principals of CIP have worked together for 15 years, and have applied statistical and quantitative modeling techniques to equity management for over 11 years.
David J. Abitz, CFA
David Abitz founded QIS Advisors, the predecessor firm to Convergence Investment Partners, in 2004. David has more than 18 years of investment experience and is the chief investment officer, partner and director of Convergence. Prior to founding Convergence, David was chief investment officer of the Custom Quantitative Solutions Group at M&I Investment Management Corp. from 2000 to 2004, where he managed the Marshall Equity Income Fund, Tax Efficient Portfolios, M&I High Dividend Income Portfolios and the M&I Long/Short Fund. David began his career at M&I Investment Management Corporation as a fundamental equity research analyst and an equity trader.
David has a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and a master’s of business administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He is a member of the Society of Quantitative Analysts and the CFA Society of San Diego.
David W. Schulz , CFA
David Schulz is the president of Convergence Investment Partners. Previously, he served as the president and chief investment officer of M&I Investment Management Corporation, a $17 billion investment advisory, where he was instrumental in forming proprietary mutual funds, securities lending and asset allocation programs for the firm. He also served as the director of fixed income for M&I and is a former Morningstar Five-Star Manager. David has patented one quantitative investment process and has another patient pending.
David is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He is a member of the Security Analysts Society and a former trustee of Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.
Jonathan Franklin
Jonathan Franklin is the head of research at Convergence Investment Partners. His responsibilities cover all aspects of data management and data integrity, empirical research, and portfolio management. Jonathan has 13 years of financial services experience and an extensive background in data management.
Prior to joining Convergence, Jonathan was a technical lead manager for Fair Isaac Corporation, where he gained experience utilizing various database management programming languages to extract, validate and transform data for client usage. His experience also includes the discovery and investigation of client data, the design of client databases, and the implementation of those designs for client utilization.
Jonathan has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and Spanish from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Todd Hanson, PMP
Todd Hanson is a managing partner and the director of technology at Convergence Investment Partners. He is also one of the founding partners of the firm. As the director of technology, Todd is responsible for overseeing all aspects of investment technology, systems integration and investment operations at Convergence. He brings to his role more than 20 years of investment technology experience.
Prior to joining Convergence, Todd was the vice president of technology at M& I Investment Management, a $17 billion investment advisory firm.
Todd has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Marquette University and a master’s degree in management information systems from the University of Wisconsin. He is a adjunct professor of database strategies, programming and IT project management at the University of Phoenix, ITT Technical Institute and Cardinal Stritch University. Todd holds the Project Manager Professional designation and is a Microsoft Certified Professional in SQL development and deployment.
